My career in the web world began in February 1997 as a Systems Analyst at the Army Training and Doctrine Command Digital Library, Fort Eustis, VA. There, I honed my technical skills by developing web-based training curriculums for our troops.
In May 1999, I transitioned to higher education, where I remained until December 2022. During my tenure, I spearheaded four major website redesigns for the university, ensuring a modern and inclusive experience for all visitors. I also implemented a sustainable model for user-generated content, empowering faculty, staff, and students to create and manage their own web presence within the university’s domain. To facilitate this, I conducted extensive campus-wide training on the university’s content management system for over a decade.
In October 2016, digital accessibility became a core focus for me. I developed the university’s first Digital Access and Opportunity Accessibility Program, which encompassed best practices for accessibility oversight and testing, university accessibility policies and procedures, guidelines for procuring accessible technologies, and training curricula for faculty and staff.
Demonstrating my commitment to accessibility, I earned my Certification in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) in April 2020. My certification was renewed in April 2023, reflecting my ongoing dedication to inclusive web design.
In early 2022, my passion for protecting the environment and managing websites converged, and I began exploring sustainable web design practices. This approach perfectly aligned with my values—crafting web experiences that benefit users while minimizing environmental impact. It was this spark that ignited the creation of Bayside Web Works. Offering eco-friendly web design and management alongside digital accessibility compliance services feels like a dream job, allowing me to make a positive impact at the intersection of these passions.
